Who we are
This website is run by the J. Okonkwo Foundation. For any privacy question or request, email scholarships [at] jokonkwofoundation [dot] org.
Information this website collects
This website does not have any online forms and does not ask you to create an account. It does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not track you.
Like most websites, our server keeps short-term technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages you requested) to keep the site secure and working. We keep these logs for no more than 30 days. The website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when you visit.
Privacy notice for scholarship applicants
When you email us a scholarship application, you give us personal information about yourself and, for younger applicants, about your parent or guardian. This may include your name, date of birth, nationality and residency, contact details, school details, academic results and transcripts, birth and baptismal certificates, parents' tax returns, recommendation letters, photographs and information about your family's circumstances.
We use this information only to:
- assess your application and check that it is genuine, which includes confirming your enrolment and results with your school or institution;
- contact you about your application;
- run your scholarship if you are selected, including payments, renewals and progress checks;
- keep records we are required to keep.
We do not sell your information or share it for marketing. Only the foundation staff and trustees who manage scholarships can see it. We share it outside the foundation only with your school or institution to verify your details, or when the law requires us to.
We will never publish your name, photograph or story without your written permission. For applicants under 18, we also need permission from a parent or guardian.
We keep the applications of unsuccessful applicants for no longer than 12 months after the selection round, then delete them. We keep the records of selected scholars for as long as they receive support, plus any period the law requires.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or withdraw your consent. To do any of these, email scholarships [at] jokonkwofoundation [dot] org. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Keeping information safe
Applications are kept in a restricted mailbox and in secure storage that only authorised staff can access. Please send your application only to the email address shown on this website.
